I tell my kids all the time: grades are just data. They’re not a measure of your value, your intelligence, or your potential. They simply show us what’s working and what still needs a little attention.

When we look at a grade, we don’t ask “Why did you miss this?” We ask “What does this tell us?”

As homeschool moms we can easily get caught up in putting an emphasis on grades and not focusing on the true purpose of education.

Teaching our kids that grades are simply data to tell us where we need to adjust and not a reflection of their intelligence makes it easier to focus on the true purpose, which is teaching them ALL the skills they need, not just subjects, for a happy successful life!✨️

My first few years of homeschooling, I was miserable.🥴

And not because I didn't enjoy being home with my kids.(l actually really like them 😂). But because I wasn't creating a lifestyle FOR US.

But let me tell you, once, I finally started creating a schedule that worked for us, stopped feeling guilty all the time and paying attention to how much I really was doing (which was more than I realized) and started taking better care of mvself, it changed everything!

It took me a minute to lean into the FREEDOM of homeschooling and not tie myself down with other people's judgments and opinions. But maaaan once I finally did, I couldn't imagine my life any other way! 🫶🏽✨️

I was so consumed with fear, worry, and wondering if I was “doing enough” that I missed out on actually ENJOYING the moments I was working so hard to create.

1. sit still and learn: kids need to wiggle and roll around. As long as they are learning the information, let them hang upside down

2. Grade levels don't really matter. A lot of homeschool, kids don't even know what grade they're in because you just move ahead when they're ready. It's not about meeting deadlines it's about moving at that child's pace

Somewhere, we got the memo that becoming "mom" meant deleting everything else about ourselves like we're some kind of human software update. "Sorry, hobbies have been uninstalled to make room for more guilt and exhaustion."

But plot twist - you were actually a whole person before tiny humans started calling you by your new job title. Shocking, I know.
Yes, priorities shift. Yes, some things get shelved temporarily. But completely vanishing into the role of "she who finds lost socks and cuts crusts off sandwiches"? That's not mothering excellence, that's identity theft.

Your kids don't need a mom-shaped ghost floating around the house. They need to see what it looks like when a woman has interests beyond whether they ate their vegetables and if their homework is done.

The whole "good moms sacrifice everything" narrative is just peer pressure in a floral apron. We're out here competing in the Suffering Olympics when we should be showing our kids what fulfilled humans look like.

You can love your children fiercely, AND still remember you have a first name. Crazy concept, I know.

Your kids deserve to know the badass woman who became their mom, not just her shadow.🌹

What self-care behaviors are you modeling for your kids? Because let's be honest, they're watching everything - even when we think they're distracted by their screens.

Are you showing your daughters that it's okay to say no when you're overwhelmed? Or are they watching you run yourself ragged saying yes to everything while complaining about being tired?

Are you teaching your sons that self-care isn't just face masks and bubble baths, but setting boundaries, asking for help, and prioritizing mental health? That taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of others?

When I constantly apologize for needing five minutes alone, or skip my own needs to handle theirs immediately, I'm accidentally teaching them that self-sacrifice equals good parenting.

But when I actually sit down to eat my own food, take that phone call with a friend, or say "give me ten minutes to finish this," I'm showing them something different. That people - including them someday - deserve to take care of themselves too.

They don't need a perfect mom. They need to see what it looks like to value yourself enough to meet your own basic needs.🌹

The conversations get deeper, the stakes feel higher, but the moments of connection? They're pure gold. When they choose to open up to you, it feels like the greatest honor in the world.

✨One thing about me is I can say I have loved every stage of my kids growing up (not everyday now, some days had me like 🥴) But every stage I have seen their growth and personalties develop and as much as I love them being little, I am really loving watching them become young adults!🥰

Nobody talks about the evolution from newborn to toddler parenting: going from "I must meet every need instantly" to "no, I will not open your fruit snacks while I'm literally in the shower."

Those early days programmed me to respond to every sound like it was a five-alarm fire. Baby cries? Drop everything. Baby needs something? The world stops.

But somewhere along the way, I realized I was opening goldfish crackers while brushing my teeth, finding lost toys mid-conversation, and yes... actually considering whether I could unwrap a granola bar with shampoo in my hair.

Learning to say "you can wait five minutes" feels like going against every maternal instinct, but turns out teaching them patience starts with me not being their 24/7 personal assistant.

Because here's the thing: if I keep being the magical snack fairy who appears at their every whim, I'm raising tiny humans who think the world revolves around their immediate desires. And trust me, the world has some news for them about that.

They need to learn that other people have needs too (like basic hygiene), that waiting builds character, and that not every want is an emergency. Plus, I refuse to raise adults who expect their future partners to abandon their own shower time for crackers!

For years I thought consistency meant never missing a workout, following the perfect plan, and somehow finding an hour every single day. So naturally, I failed over and over because life with kids laughs at perfect plans.

But real consistency isn't about never missing a day - it's about not quitting when you do miss one. Or two. Or an entire week because someone got sick and your schedule imploded.

Old me would miss one workout and think "well, I've ruined everything, might as well quit." New me misses a workout and thinks "okay, when can I get back to it?" The difference is everything.
Consistency became about the comeback, not the streak. It's showing up again after life happens, not punishing myself for being human with human responsibilities.

Some weeks I'm on fire with my routine. Other weeks I'm just trying to survive. But I don't throw in the towel anymore when life gets messy - I just pick up where I left off when I can breathe again.

The magic was learning that taking breaks doesn't break the habit. Missing workouts doesn't make you a failure. Starting over and over again? That's what real consistency looks like.💪🏽

Mom guilt made me think I was the only one who could properly care for my kids. I wouldn't leave them with others because "no one knows them like I do" – I could anticipate every need before they even asked.
But here's what I didn't realize: by always being their buffer, I wasn't teaching them to communicate their needs or practice patience when things didn't go their way immediately.

My guilt was disguised as being the "best mom," but it was actually limiting their growth. They needed to learn how to ask for water instead of me noticing their thirst. They needed to experience waiting and advocating for themselves.

Sometimes our mom guilt isn't protecting our kids – it's protecting our own need to feel indispensable. And that's not fair to them or us.
Now I'm learning that stepping back isn't abandoning them. It's giving them space to develop resilience, communication skills, and independence. It's teaching them they're capable of navigating the world even when I'm not hovering.

The hardest part of mothering might be knowing when to mother less.😅

I can't believe we just wrapped our 8th year of Homeschooling!🤯
What started off as "Let's just give it one year". Turned into Um, this is how we live now!"

Looking back, there were 2 major mindset shifts I had to go through to actually ENJOY Homeschooling!

1. Learning to think outside the box.

Man, this one was HARD for me! Coming from being a classroom teacher, I was SO used to following curriculum guides, meeting standards, and checking boxes. Homeschooling forced me to throw out the rulebook and ask: "What does MY child actually need right now?"

I had to learn:
That learning doesn't only happen between 8am-3pm
That struggling with a concept isn't failure—it's part of the process
That my worth isn't measured by how perfectly I execute every lesson
That some of the best learning happens when we follow our curiosity down rabbit holes

2. Putting myself last didn't make me a better mom! (It actually made me worse)

For years, I poured everything into my kids' education while completely neglecting my own needs. I was burning out, feeling resentful, and honestly? Not showing up as my best self for anyone. Learning to carve out time for my own interests, friendships, and growth wasn't selfish—it was essential. My kids needed to see me as a whole person, not just "mom the teacher."

Once I switched my mindset to be more open to what learning can look like and actually started prioritizing and taking care of myself, here's what I gained;

Kids who are confident learners, not just good test-takers
A family culture that values questions over quick answers
The courage to trust my instincts as a parent
A more fun, relaxed relationship with my children
I was less stressed, more patient, happier
And honestly? A version of myself I'm so freaking proud of

To any parent considering this path or struggling in the middle of it: It's messy. It's hard. It will challenge everything you think you know about education and parenting. And there will definitely be days you think to yourself, "Girl, what am I doing?!" But it's also beautiful in ways I never expected.

From starting off with sign language, and not knowing if he would ever make eye contact with me to watching him grow into a young man who I have the most hilarious conversations with.

I'm so proud to be his Mommy. (Even though yesterday he started calling me mom🙄😂)

Sooo I didn't hit my fitness goals that I wanted to by my birthday. And so it's time to lock in.

It's easy to get discouraged when we miss a goal, but the key is to refocus, give yourself grace (GRACE, not excuses), and go again.

I know my main issue was my nutrition because I stopped meal prepping. (You can work out all you want, but you eat crap and it won't matter)

So Im giving myself 6 weeks to work
on:
Leaning out
Flexibility
Getting stronger

We aren't always gonna hit the mark when we try, but it's what we do next that determines if that's our story or just a chapter.

When I first started homeschooling, everything was "should"

I thought we should follow the schedule.
We should finish every lesson.
We should make it look more like school.
We should be more structured, more serious, more “on it.”

And eventually, I burned out.
They lost interest.
I lost confidence.
And I started wondering if maybe… we just weren’t cut out for homeschooling anymore.

But here’s what actually happened:

We stopped homeschooling the wrong way —
and started homeschooling OUR WAY.

✨More freedom
✨More joy
✨More trust in our rhythm
✨More connection, less comparison

For years, I created the homeschool space that I thought my kids "should" have. .

Especially because they've always been homeschooled, I didn't want them to feel like they were missing out on a classroom experience.

Add that to me, being a former teacher, and I kept creating a homeschool space that, although was pretty, I didn't always love being in.

So this year, I created this space to be a fun place for us to come together and do our lessons, but that felt like sitting at the kitchen table or lounging on the couch together. And this was the first full year I i actually love being in this room!
