It's October. The pumpkin spice is out, the candles say "cozy," and Texas is sitting at 90 degrees like it has no idea what month it is.

I love Fall fashion. I am not willing to sweat through a sweater to prove it. So here's how I'm doing Fall right now: Fall colors, Fall textures, and fabrics that actually let me breathe. No heavy layers required.

Here are 4 fall looks I'm wearing while we wait for the weather to catch up.

Look 1:

This two-piece is my answer to "I want to look put together, but I also want to be comfortable." A cropped button henley with tan trim over a matching column maxi skirt. The neutral stripe reads Fall without trying too hard.

Why it works in the heat: This is a light ribbed knit, not a heavy sweater knit. Perfect for chilly mornings and hot afternoons with the removable cardigan.

Styled with: clear strappy heels and a cognac top-handle bag.

*There is no slit in the back of this dress, so I'm actually about to cut one in myself. But if you keep it as is, just know that I would recommend wearing it the movies, brunch, something where you are not going to be walking around unless you are ok with baby steps😂

Look 2:

If you want the full Fall girl moment, this is it. An oatmeal turtleneck sweater with cap sleeves and a matching pleated mini skirt. It looks like a sweater set. It wears like a summer outfit.

Why it works in the heat: Short sleeves and a short skirt keep the airflow going, and the soft knit texture does all the fall work. Matching sets are also my favorite cheat code. One decision, fully dressed.

Styled with: nude lace-up studded heels and the same cognac bag.

Look 3:

Denim is a Fall staple, but jeans in 90 degrees? No thank you. This sleeveless button-front maxi dress gives you the denim without the commitment.

Why it works in the heat: Sleeveless up top, a front slit at the bottom, and a light wash that keeps it fresh. When it finally cools down, throw a cardigan or moto jacket over it and keep wearing it into November.

Styled with: nude lace-up heels, a gold bangle, and the cognac bag.

Look 4:

Same denim energy, shorter hemline. This short-sleeve shirt dress has a fitted waist and a flared skirt, so it's easy to throw on and still looks intentional.

Why it works in the heat: Short sleeves, mini length, and a structured fit that doesn't cling. It works for errands, date night, or a pumpkin patch photo op where you'd rather not melt.

Styled with: nude lace-up heels and, you guessed it, the cognac bag. Notice a theme?

How to Dress for Fall When It Still Feels Like Summer

  • Wear fall colors, not fall weight. Oatmeal, camel, cognac, and denim say autumn without the extra layers.

  • Let texture do the work. A rib or a soft knit reads seasonal, even with short sleeves.

  • Anchor it with one fall accessory. A cognac bag instantly makes a summer-weight outfit feel like October.

  • Keep a layer in the car, not on your body. You'll need it for the AC, not the weather.

One thing about dressing in my 40s is that I dress for the weather I actually have, and being sweaty ain't cute! Fall will show up eventually. Until then, I'll be cute and cool.
